Live Wedding Guest Portrait Paintings at The Hidden Oaks in Richmond, Virginia

Live Wedding Guest Paintings in Richmond, Virginia by Virginia Live Wedding Painter Emily Farewell

I had the amazing oportunity to live paint the guests of Mac and Payals wedding. The venue was at The Hidden Oaks in Richmond, Virginia. It was definitely a hidden gem and an amazing venue to live paint in. I showed up a little before cocktail hour to set up my table. They had me in a perfect and cozy spot just entering an archway before heading to the bar. Once everyone was heading towards cocktail hour after the ceremony, I had a line of people wanting their portrait done!

The process is, I photograph the couple or friends or family, whoever wants drawn, and draw from that photograph. I do this so the guests can go enjoy the wedding itself. I do not finish all of the paintings at the wedding. I currently average about 10-14 minutes per painting depending on the level of detail is in the guests attire. I set up 3 paintings to draw at a time on my easel. As one dries, I start onto the next one. I wait until the watercolor is completely dry before outline the drawing with pen. Whatever pieces I do not finish, I take home to my studio to finish and mail out to either the couple, or to the individual guests. This couple in particular wanted them mailed to them to send out as Thank You's to their guests. Such a great idea!

After cocktail hour, I moved into the reception area where I painted as many portrait as I could in the amount of time I was to be there. It was a beautiful and fun wedding and I cannot wait to do more in the future!

A little about me! I have been a professional artist since 2018. I started my business in Maui, Hawaii where I sold my work on Front Street in Lahaina as well as at The Grand Wailea Resort and Fairmont. I made stickers, cards, and prints of my work and sold them in 18 shops in Maui and Oahu. I also won people's choice award for a painting I submitted for the Lahaina Banner Contest. In 2023, when the fires in Lahiana took almost the entire town, I ran a fund raiser donated 100% of my profits to those that lost everything to the fires. I was able to raise over $3000 and donated to 6 families directly. I now live in Northern Virginia with my Husband, 4 month old son, 2 dogs, 5 rabbits, and over 50 chickens. I sell my artwork in a couple of shops locally here in Virginia as well as do pet portraits and wedding portraits. I absolutely love what I do and will never stop being an artist. It is who I am at my core.
